This is an interesting cookbook in that it starts off with an overview of the immune system, and then leads into how this system interacts with the other organ systems of the body. The impact of metabolism and how the foods we consume affect each of these organ systems is discussed and how the health of the entire body can be improved. The information regarding the immune system is necessarily brief and rather basic. It is, after all a very complicated, multi-layered organ system. I thought the chapters on metabolic health and healing were interesting, if not exactly the deep-dive referred to in the introduction. I like how the book is arranged with the first four chapters providing background and the recipes presented in chapters 5-10. Similar to most cookbooks, there are chapters devoted to snacks & appetizers, beverages, breakfast/brunch, lunch, dinner & finally desserts. The book itself is a soft cover and is well bound, so I don’t have to worry about it falling apart as I am reading through it. The book is fairly compact, but not too small and the pages are of very good quality — the paper is thick and durable with a durable semi-gloss finish, like I would find in a good textbook. I dislike cookbooks that have thin, fragile pages that feel more like a paperback novel (unfortunately I have a few of those). The pictures and print on one side of the page do not show through to the other. There are a lot of beautiful, vibrant pictures, and they are nicely done although there isn’t a picture of every single recipe. I don’t really want or need a lot of pictures in a cookbook, but I am probably in the minority here. I know some of my most recent cookbooks have a picture of every single recipe, often taking up an entire page. I learned to cook a long time ago from cookbooks that contained hundreds of recipes, some with no pictures at all and some with just a few here and there. I’d rather have the recipes..I did find some good recipes in this cookbook, but for the most part they are not anything new to me, and I already have the recipe in one of my many cookbooks. In addition, some are so simple, I don’t even think a recipe is even needed. What I did like is that each recipe is presented on its own page and none of them are needlessly complex (some recipes continue to a second page). The page is set up in a way that makes it very easy to glance over the ingredients to see if I already have what I need to make a dish or what I need to buy. I like the brief introduction to each recipe and the benefit of the ingredients. The ingredients are listed on the left of the page, and the directions on the right. To the side of the actual recipe, the number of servings is shown, there is an estimate of prep-time, the recipe is categorized as vegetarian, vegan, etc., there is a list of the ingredients that are so-called superfoods, and a nutritional breakdown — all of this is in bold text. It seems as if many people rely on the internet for recipes these days, but I prefer to have a cookbook in my hand. That way I know I can always find the same recipe again. Plus, it is nice to have some background information in the same place. This isn’t the right cookbook for me, but I think it might be a nice starting point for someone new to the subject that might need a little help identifying ingredients and coming up with recipes. The cookbook does seem a bit pricey…

I do like that the author goes into all the reasons behind why healing your gut is important. I found the recipes lacking a bit, and many of the recipes included items that can be inflammatory. I guess I was expecting something a bit different. It’s nice that the sidebar of the recipe shows a breakdown of whether the recipe is vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, diary-free, and/or grain-free. Unfortunately, I did find at least 1 recipe that was incorrectly labeled. It’s hit or miss on whether the recipe has a picture. The pictures that are there are beautiful, full-color images. This wasn’t the correct immunity cookbook for me as it just had way too many ingredients that flair inflammation and immune response. For others, it may work just fine.

This book offers a wealth of information interspersed among its recipes. You’ll learn about inflammation, the gut biome and fiber, immunometabolism, and other illness prevention methods related to diet. The information is mostly solid though I don’t agree with labeling olive or avocado oil as a superfood.I think this book offers a really nice, gentle pathway into learning more about how food impacts your health and disease. It offers an excellent transition into a more plant-based, low fat, low meat, no sugar way of eating and if you are someone thinking about moving that direction or just looking to treat disease with diet this is a nice step in the right direction. The recipes included are enticing yet approachable. They offer a nice mix of flavor but without unnecessary complexity. There are a fair number of recipes that will likely satiate any craving you can come up with.My only gripe with this book is that not all of the recipes have pictures. It’s hard to get inspired to make something (or even know how to make it) without a little visual inspiration.Long story short if you are looking to learn about how diet impacts health and transition into a more plant-based, low inflammation diet this just might be the perfect cookbook for you. There is much to learn and much to cook.

I am always looking for new and fresh ways to spice up my diet and improve my health and soothe my gut all at once, so this booked piqued my interest because it looked like it checked all the boxes. 75 recipes seems like a lot of options, but it’s broken down by category (elixirs/drinks, small bites/appetizers, dips, mains etc.) so there may only be one or two recipes in each category you may be game to try. While I am intrigued by some of the dishes, I found it to be a bit «bougie,» by which I mean that you are expected to have some really unusual ingredients on-hand to execute them. One example of which is hazelnut butter… I have in the past purchased all sorts of plant-based butters and milks, but I feel like I’d have to trek into some exclusive health store to track this one down. Several of the other recipes call for things like spelt, fresh persimmon, vanilla bean powder, kohlrabi, chlorella powder, none of which I ever just keep on hand. This isn’t a deal breaker, though – I’ve been known to spend too much $$$ on specific ingredients for a special recipe, but this book just seems to have a lot of things I wouldn’t ever think to keep in my house. There first 50 pages of the book contain several informative topics regarding your diet and the effect on your overall body and microbiome, the importance of exercise, how sugar impacts the body, what diet does to your organs and ultimately how it affects your immune system, the different kinds of antibodies amongst many other topics. Each recipe is then prefaced with what the specific benefits to that meal are.I think if you are trying to heal your gut or jumpstart your journey to health, this book could be a good stepping stone to your goal. Because the recipes aren’t crazy simple and comprised of just a few standard ingredients, however, it may be slightly overwhelming to reference just on its own. It’s also a little on the expensive side. Overall, however, if you’re committed to healing your gut and understanding the «why,» this could be a worthy buy for you.

The top binding for the book that I received for review was partly damaged with a half-inch tear, but the book was in overall good condition, otherwise. You will have to read a good 50+ pages of narratives before reaching anything involving the recipes, but the narratives are more for practicing a healthy diet and scheduling for more healthy recipe cooking with your more-isolated indulgent recipe cooking, so do exercise patience in reading the first half of the book. Once you do so, you will not just find cooking the recipes much easier, but living a more healthy lifestyle more gracefully as well. Thank you for reading!
