Overview of Nordic Naturals DHA Xtra:+ Nordic Naturals is a very reputable brand, known for their use of pure, high quality ingredients.+ This Omega-3 supplement is comprised of bioavailable DHA 960mg and EPA 410mg which is a great amount for optimal health benefits.+ The supplements have been screened for heavy metals to ensure purity.+ There is no fishy aftertaste, unlike most Omega-3 supplements.+ Omega-3 is important for pregnancy to help brain and eye development of the baby. I took these Nordic Naturals supplements while pregnant with my son after several miscarriages and he was my first live birth. I believe the medications I took this time round were what made the difference, but I am sure the Omega-3 was also beneficial to his development.+ Omega-3 is also important for eye health. I developed dry eye disease around six months ago, and have been taking these supplements again (alongside drops and IPL treatment) to boost my eye health as much as possible.- I would prefer these supplements in gummie form, as they are quite large pills so can be hard to swallow although they’re very smooth. They sometimes make me gag slightly, although they’re definitely easier to swallow than other tablets without a smooth coating.- I would prefer a glass bottle, as it’s more sustainable.- They are pretty expensive.CONCLUSION:If you want the best quality Omega-3, I can definitely recommend these supplements. You might not feel any different for taking them, but Omega-3 is undoubtedly beneficial for brain and eye health, and foetal development. However, they are pricey, so it’s worth considering more affordable brands too – there are plenty of good ones. Just make sure the brand is rigorous about heavy metal testing, as that’s not something you want to be consuming, especially if you’re pregnant.

The only deterrent could be the price but this does appear to be a high-quality product so if cost is not an issue these fish oil tablets can be recommended. Nordic Naturals claims that it’s the No.1 fish oil brand in the USA, if that’s true then they must have a good product at least.Opening the lid, poking my nose in and having a sniff, I can easily detect the strawberry odour (pleasant enough) although I can’t really taste anything at all when I swallow a softgel capsule – that’s fine by me of course. I find them easy to swallow, they’re of average size.As for the benefits, well, as usual with most food supplements everything has to be taken at face value as I have no way of testing the contents in such a way to provide an accurate scientific analysis. I’ve been taking them once-a-day for about 5-6 weeks and in truth I cannot state with any certainty that they have generated any improvements. I have to trust the brand, trust the integrity of the company and basicaly hope that they’re doing good things to my body, notably my brain and eyes I suppose. The suggested intake is two capsules a day (so one bottle will last one month) but I’ve not gone to that level yet. I accept that I probably should take two a day.Nordic Naturals has been around for decades, I interpret this as meaning that if there was something dodgy about the brand, it would be common knowledge by now.The majority of people – up to 90% of adults – do not eat the recommended two servings of fatty fish a week and, as a result, don’t get enough omega-3 in their diet.According to experts this amount of fish can provide omega-3s needed to support overall health, well-being, and chronic disease risk reduction. Plus, research suggests consistently getting adequate amounts of fish oil may be helpful for a variety of health concerns, from rheumatoid arthritis pain to high triglycerides. However, if you are consistently eating fatty fish several times a week and donât have any health concerns, you may not need a fish oil supplement.Fish oil supplements are made from the oils in fatty fish. These oils are purified and concentrated to provide higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids – specifically Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). This is where a fish oil supplement can come in handy as a source of omega-3s. The recommended eight ounces of seafood per week is about the equivalent of 250 mg of EPA and DHA per day, which can easily be provided from a fish oil supplement. All fish oil supplements are required to undergo purification to remove contaminants like mercury, PCBs, and others, but Nordic Naturals DHA Xtra is third-party tested, has versatile dosing (so you can adjust the dosage on weeks you may eat more fatty fish), offers minimized exposure to oxygen during processing and packaging, and preferably provided EPA and DHA in the triglyceride form found naturally in fish. Before taking a fish oil supplement, note that it can interact with blood thinners, blood pressure medication, and chemotherapy. Therefore, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional if you are on these medications. There are countless Omega-3 fish oil supplements on the market and while many of them have specific target markets (such as triglyceride boost, pregnancy benefits, eye health improvement), this product is often given a «best overall» rating on food supplement websites – with the caveat that many of these websites receive a financial commission for promoting particular brands or products.Nordic Naturals is a trusted fish oil supplement brand that offers a wide range of dosing options. Taking one softgel offers enough DHA and EPA to cover gaps with regular fatty fish intake. However, taking the recommended two soft gel doses is more suitable if you donât regularly eat fatty fish, as this serving provides 690 mg of omega-3s. From my research it is evident that recognised experts in this field recommend the Nordic Naturals brand because of the company’s commitment to third-party testing, quality ingredients, and the amount of omega-3s it provides. It’s worth noting that the softgels are made from bovine gelatin, an important consideration for those who donât eat beef or meat products.

I keep these on my desk so that I remember to take them and while they have a fruity flavour to mask any fishiness (they are made from fish after all) I don’t get any fishy odour or aftertaste. (That’s a good thing by the way, because if you do take a fish oil supplement that has a strong fishy taste and odour it means the supplement has oxidised.)What I like about this supplement is that it’s made from wild not farmed, anchovies and sardines. Because they are further down the food chain, there is less concern about heavy metals and other contaminants. That said, Nordic Naturals conducts independent and rigorous testing to check for environmental toxins and heavy metals. I appreciate the transparency of information and the high quality of this supplement. The price is high, but fish oils you get what you pay for. It’s worth investing in a good quality product such as this one.
Fair review –
These Omega 3 capsules at the recommended daily dosage of 2 capsules provide a good amount of EPA and DHA, the two important fatty acids that Omega 3 contains. Looking at competing products this is amongst the highest daily dosage available.Iâm not sure what the advantage of them having a strawberry flavour might be as I tend to swallow them with a glass of water, but at least one is not hit by the fishy smell that my current capsules have when taking the lid off the container. In fact that initial smell is quite pleasant. As an aside, these capsules, being produced from sardine and anchovy fish oils, apparently will be lower in vitamins A and D then the equivalent cod liver oil source of Omega 3 where these vitamins are naturally occurring, however taking a concurrent multi vitamin will make that somewhat irrelevant. As with many soft gel capsules the gelatin based casing means that these are not for strict pescatarians, but apart from those riders these seem to be a good alternative for increasing your Omega 3 intake with all the health benefits that holds, perhaps making up for the rather high cost of these capsules compared to many others offering a lower daily dose.I think they are worthy of 4 stars given the high dosage and attempt to make fish oil palatable in spite of a comparatively rather high current price.
Love2review –
This is the first time that I have had Omega 3 with strawberry flavour. I am happy to say that the strawberry flavour is pleasant and works well at reducing the fish oil aftertaste.I like that the capsules are both gluten- and soy-free, and that they use natural strawberry flavouring. I also like that the supplement contains high levels of EPA and DHA, as these are vital to maintaining good health and supporting muscle activity. The soft gel capsules are small and easy to swallow and do not leave any unpleasant aftertaste. The bottle contains sixty soft gel capsules, with a recommendation to take two a day, so this supplement will last for one month. It is a little expensive, but the good-quality ingredients and high levels of the most important omega-3 fatty acids make it worth the price.I am happy with this good quality supplement and will get it again when it runs out.
